This is my design for the hoops for hoopers to avoid the little dachshund trap in the corners. The Pax is cut to 90" and the bottom bar is 34". The sides are 18", and the feet are 12" each. I ordered the 4 ways from Cleanrun. Here are two videos of Kili and Saales from the January, 2006 GDAC Trial. The video of Saales is her best run ever in competition. The only thing I see to work on based on this clip is the seesaw, which is slow. Saales needs to run further out on the board and shift her weight back to wait for the tip to hit the ground. In the video of Kili you can see me make a major error after the 2nd seesaw. I call her repeatedly to help her wrap for the second tunnel and she does. We end up with an off course, but I know I was wrong and let her rip the finish so that she hopefully forgets my error and forgives. Quick Links

Bangtail Dec 2008 Premium Come join the Bangtail crew of Jean, Nancy, Lark, Sami and Anne D. as they celebrate their last Bangtail Trial. After originally starting Bangtail because there weren't enough opportunities to trial in Montana we realize that there are plenty of trials to choose from throughout the state. We'll have our usual QQQQ ribbons plus High in Trial ribbons for the regular classes. Nancy Creel is sponsoring a prize for the most Christmassy crating area as well. /Bangtail premium Dec 2008 approved.doc

January 2005 Handouts I try to create a handout for each class that covers some topic in dog agility. Here's a sampling from January 2005. 1 2 3 Montana Maniacs Flyball Team The Montana Maniac's are the only registered Flyball team in the state. Currently they have the state record of 21.21 which was set at the LA in May tourney in Coaldale, Alberta in May, 2004. Dazy, Ruby, Kili and Belle set the new record. 3 of the 4 dogs were rescued. They were the usual--deaf and/or too much energy. Contact Nancy Creel at 522-7748 to confirm the current practice schedule. Our latest results are listed at www.flyball.org. We're team #524. Here's a cool story on going from Chicken Dog to Flyball Dog Champion by local author, Lark Pollari. Link to our dog points and titles list. Montana NATCHes In 2003, Montana saw it's first Montana started dogs earn championships in agility in any organization. Click here to read about these dogs and their outstanding accomplishments in 2003. Add Nancy Hartz and Hope to the NATCH list! They finished on September 10, 2005. Buddy just had back surgery. We wish him luck during his recovery. |
4-H is underway...Despite our poor weather on Wednesdays. 4-H is cancelled on Wednesday, May 21st, due to cold and rain for the Fairgrounds with Anne and at my house. Hope for sun next week! Here is the homework I want everyone to watch this week: Intro to Clicker Training on Youtube Then use these ideas to teach your dog to "high five". I start the dog by getting them to hit a book on the floor with their front feet. You'll give many, many rewards for just this and then slowly raise the book higher and higher. If your dog already does a high five then ask them to do it from a sit or beg position. Watch the clip below for loads of trick ideas. The beginners are at 1430 Cherry Drive on Wed. from 4:30 - 5:30 and the advanced group is with Anne Dixon at the fairgrounds at the same time. The beginners will be working on basic behaviors for the first few weeks and then once the dogs have learned to learn and the kids have learned to train the agility obstacles will be a snap. Go to this youtube link for lots of ideas and watch how often she rewards her dogs. http://youtube.com/watch?v=FW8Hg4nEp-w Level One Handler Understand that to set dogs up for success that they need to successfully manage them for success. 2-- use of marker word or clicker to signal a reward is coming 3--Learn to control space by teaching the dog to back 4--Use of Lure vs. Reward 5--300 Peck Method of building up longer and longer responses Level One Dog 1--Watch Me 2--On leash work figure 8 around two cones 3--Self Control Sit Down and Stay 4--Respect Owners space 5--Come with great enthusiasm 6--Trickshigh five Classes Private lessons on Monday thru Thursday during the day when the snow has melted. Contact me at nmcreel@bresnan.net for details or to set up a private. Running Contacts A lot of folks have been retraining or starting their dogs on running contacts. The best link in the world for the philosophy of RCs is Silvia Trkman's. My method is slightly different, but uses many of the same principles. If you are doing a retrain please read through everything on this site and look at lot's of the videos. It's very systematic and takes a long time. For example, one of her recommendations is off leash walking for 2 hours per day! The other is to teach 100 tricks. Here's the link to the best agility site in the internet: http://www.silvia.trkman.net/ Weaver's Goals for Calvin Homework The Fast Track Currently I am filling in Thursday mornings with Private Lessons. Cost is $20 per half hour and $35 per hour.
Calvin practices the "table" in Innisfree Gardens. His early training was on natural obstacles that we found in this doggie wonderland. http://www.cs.gc.cuny.edu/~natasha/Journeys/innisfree.html Old Homeworks
